Upset with rampant factionalism in NCP’s Mumbai unit, party supremo and Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, today met State unit leaders and Ministers to discuss revamping of the city organisation.
The meeting took place at the residence of Rural Development Minister and Guardian Minister of Mumbai city, Mr Jayant Patil, in South Mumbai.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Pawar criticised the city unit leaders for hurting the prospects of the party due to rampant factionalism over the last three years.
Stressing the need for strengthening the organisation, he said Mumbai’s social and political fabric is different from the rest of the country. “The need of the hour is to take into confidence minorities, including linguistic minorities and youth,” he said.
Party spokesman, Mr Madan Bafna, said Mr Pawar discussed the strategy to revamp the city unit with a view to improve its political strength in the country’s commercial capital.
Mr Bafna said Mr Pawar held one-to-one meetings with Ministers, legislators and senior office bearers, on steps to be taken to resurrect the party in Mumbai.
Sources said about 30 to 35 senior leaders and office bearers gave their opinion on the steps to be taken to revive the party in Mumbai and views on new city unit president.
