Mere financing is not enough in philanthropy. It needs a compassionate heart, according to Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation.
She said this while delivering the Founders’ Day lecture at the head office of Karnataka Bank in Mangalore on Tuesday.
“One should have the will to help and must invest one’s wholehearted effort in it (philanthropy),” she said. In addition, philanthropy has to proceed on the right path, in the right amount and at the right time.
Sudha Murthy stressed on the role of banks in uplifting the downtrodden in society.
Appreciating the vision of Karnataka Bank, she said such banks lend a helping hand to the poorer sections of society. Stating that generosity of a few is hope for a million, she said Infosys Foundation hopes to do much more to provide basic amenities to those who do not have them.
Ananthakrishna, Chairman of the bank, said the bank would surely do its best to live up to the vision of its founding fathers.
P Jayaram Bhat, Managing Director, welcomed the gathering. MS Mahabaleshwar Bhat, Chief General Manager of the bank, proposed a vote of thanks.
Karnataka Bank was established on February 18 1924, and stepped into its 91st year on Tuesday.
