The Coimbatore edition of RBIQ (Reserve Bank of India Quiz) is slated for September 12 at the SNR Auditorium. The programme, incidentally, is being held for the first time in this city.

The all-India, inter-school quiz competition is being held to create awareness and interest amongst school students about the history and role of the banking regulator, banking and finance, economics, other banking institutions, current affairs, personalities and events that have contributed to the growth and progress of India over the years, say RBI sources, adding “in dissemination of financial literacy as well.”

Around 150 teams from schools in and around this region, including Udhagamandalam, Tirupur, Erode, Pollachi and Mettupalayam are said to have registered for the quiz.

Banking Ombudsman for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry U Chiranjeevi is to be the Chief Guest for RBIQ, Coimbatore.

The organisers, RBI, plan to hold the quiz at 62 locations across the country this year.

Students studying in standards IX, X, XI and XII are eligible to participate in the competition. The quiz will be conducted in four stages – quarter final, zonal final, semi final and final. The organisers are planning to have the pre-quarter final and quarter-final rounds on the same day in Coimbatore. Reputed quizmasters from M/s Greycaps Pvt Ltd will conduct the quiz, the source said.
