West Bengal is attempting to double its export earnings by 2018-19. At a meeting with members of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations here, State Finance Minister Amit Mitra asked them to chart out a roadmap till 2018-19 to double exports from West Bengal.
“Currently exports from the State stand at Rs 63,735 crore. We are targeting to increase it to Rs 1.2 lakh crore with the help of exporters from the State,” he said.
Of the State’s exports, over half or Rs 32,890 crore is contributed by engineering items, followed by leather items (Rs 4,850 crore) and marine products (Rs 2,388 crore).
