The agitating ad hoc teachers of Delhi University will decide on the next course of action next week.

For the past two weeks, the teachers appointed on an ad hoc basis have been agitating to be absorbed by the university.

“The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has written to the staff association of all the colleges in the university regarding the matter and they have been asked to get back by January 28,” said Rajib Ray, President, DUTA.

There are around 4,500 ad hoc teachers in the university who are demanding absorption through special ordinance.

“We were appointed through an Executive Council (EC) Resolution 2017 for a period of four months. At the end of the period, we have to appear for an interview for assessment,” said Himanshu Singh, an ad hoc in Satyawati College.

Last week, Delhi University teachers and ad hoc teachers organised a protest march from Ramlila Ground to Parliament Street. They were stopped by the police at Jantar Mantar.

“Both the university and the Centre have failed us. We are suggesting a one-off regulation from the Ministry of Human Resource Development,” said Ray.

Apart from the absorption demand, the teachers are also protesting against the clause under which the post of ad hoc teachers will be offered on a contractual basis.

“Instead of absorbing us in the university, the move is to put us under the contract which will last for an academic session and after which the university will review us again,” Singh said.
