The Balaji Temple in Tirumala will soon be opened for darshan.

The Andhra Pradesh government has permitted an‘experimental’ opening of the temple to locals and employees of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which oversees the administration, from June 8. However, there is no clarity on permitting general piligrims yet.

According to TTD, a plan is being drawn up to allow 300 devotees per hour for about 15 hours a day. A physical distance of six feet will be maintained betweenpersons in the queue.

The famous hill shrine has been shutdown in the wake of Covid-19 as per a decision taken on March 19 after an initial attempt to screen pilgrims for Covid-19 symptoms from March 14.

Before complete closure, there was also a decrease in the number of devotees visiting daily from 75,000-80,000 to about 45,000.
