The number of Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu has increased to 15,512, after 759 new positive cases were reported today.

The number includes 49 returnees from other States/countries,

With 363 patients recovered, the total tally of discharged persons has increased to 7,491 — nearly half of the total cases. This leaves the active cases in the State to 7,915.

On Saturday, Chennai alone reported 624 positive cases, taking the tally in the city to 9,989, says government data. In a distant second is Chengalpattu with 39 cases (a total of 733 cases), followed by Tiruvallur with 17 (697 cases), Kancheepuram with 13 (264 cases) and districts like Tenkasi, Villupurm and Tiruvannamalai reporting cases in single digits.

Five Covid-19 patients died on Saturday, taking the tally past the 100 mark, to 103 in the State.

There are 5,518 Covid-19 suspected individuals in isolation ward admission, the data said.

Out of the 49 returnees, 24 were from Maharashtra, seven from London, five from Philippines, six from Rajasthan, three from West Bengal and one each from Delhi, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
