Andhra Pradesh Government plans to implement State-wide fibre optic network connectivity up to the village level within two and a half years.

It proposes to select the public-private partner (PPP) and joint venture partner through a competitive bidding process.

State Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said the network to be established is aimed at providing on demand, affordable broadband connectivity of 2 to 20 Mbps for all households and 1 to 10 Gbps for all institutions by 2018.

To be taken up in partnership with the Centre and through private sector participation, this project is part of the vision of converting the State into Digital Andhra Pradesh.

At a meeting today, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of AP Fiber Net Project whose objective is to provide connectivity up to the village level and enhance quality of life offering various citizen services, access to e-commerce and also use the network for other development activities.

The tariffs for the bulk users and end-user would be decided by a corporation subject to TRAI Regulations. The PPP Partner can propose necessary arrangements and could use the assets already created.

As per plans, within 30 months, the Fiber Net is planned to be implemented in the State.

According to the Chief Secretary all the educational institutions, health institutions, skill development institutions may be provided the net connection free of cost.

A consultant for the project would be enlisted the month end and two corporations to implement the project would also be created by May 2015.
