Companies based in Australia have evinced interest in investing in Andhra Pradesh in several sectors, including aquaculture and dairy sectors.
The move comes following a recent interaction the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, had at the Indo-Australian Summit in New Delhi last month.
Sean Kelly, Consul General of Australia, called on the Chief Minister at the Secretariat today and conveyed that Australia was interested in collaborating with Andhra Pradesh in various sectors of mutual interest, including aquaculture and dairy industry.
During the meeting, Kelly said that Australia specialises in sustainable fisheries management and could work with AP in this sector.
The Chief Minister said he aims to make Andhra Pradesh the aquaculture capital and a marine processing hub. “We want to make the State number one in terms of processing capacity, value-addition and highest exports of seafood,” he added.
Healthcare management
Kelly said Australia is keen on collaborating with Andhra Pradesh in healthcare management, mining, gas and energy sectors, among others. In healthcare management, Australia could collaborate in Intellectual Property (IP) and medical research as Andhra Pradesh is strong in pharmaceutical sector.
Chandrabadu Naidu explained how the State is being transformed into a logistics hub for South East Asia and outlined the State’s plans to set up six universities – Energy University, Water University, Hospitality University, Aquaculture University, Logistics University and Sports University.
The Chief Minister has been invited to visit Australia and be part of the major seafood convention to be hosted in Perth in October this year. The Chief Minister accepted the invitation and said he would send a delegation to Australia before October to study the country’s aquaculture industry.
