The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has completed the first phase of installing 75 eToilets by the Kerala-based innovator Eram Scientific Solutions, and the launch of a couple of mobile apps to make the drive more effective.

Boosted by the success of the intervention, BBMP has also announced addition of 100 eToilets in the city to take the drive farther and wider in the city.

BBMP Mayor Manjunath Reddy B N launched the apps in the presence of dignitaries including BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik, councillors and Eram Scientific CEO Anvar Sadath K.

“We realised that it has helped very much in the sanitation programme. We will now take steps to draw the people to use them. Besides, the corporation is also planning to install 100 additional eToilets in the coming months,” Reddy said.

Eram Scientific, which is the only manufacturer of the innovative product, has installed the eToilets in different locations, including 12 at Electronic City.

The mobile app will help users locate the nearest eToilet with a a map and address listing. It will explain the operation of the eToilets, provide information such as napkin vending machines, share feedback on the user experience and suggest alternative locations. The app will allow corporation officials to collect usage statistics, health status, water condition, facilities available, and generate reports on usage. The authorities could thus address issues and resolve them quickly.

“The eToilets are making a significant difference in the sanitation landscape in India. This system has been running for over a year now and we are happy that users from all segments of the city have accepted it,” said Anvar Sadath K, CEO, Eram Scientific Solutions.
