On the last day for filing nominations, the BJP sprung a surprise by fielding 28-year-old fire-brand speaker Tejasvi Surya in Bengaluru South, ignoring the claims Tejaswini, wife of late union minister HN Ananth Kumar.

The Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress combine that is ruling in Karnataka and the Opposition BJP are trying different strategies for the three prestigious Lok Sabha constituencies in Bengaluru — Bengaluru North, Bengaluru Central and Bengaluru South.

There are 28 Assembly seats spread across the three Lok Sabha constituencies, which can influence the neighbouring districts of Kolar, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Mandya and Mysuru.

On hearing of his selection, Tejasvi Surya took to twitter late in the night “OMG OMG!!! I can’t believe this. PM of world’s largest democracy & President of largest political party have reposed faith in a 28 yr old guy to represent them in a constituency as prestigious as B’lore South. This can happen only in my BJP. Only in #NewIndia of @narendramodi.”

‘Accepts decision’

Gracefully accepting the party’s decision, Tejaswini Ananthkumar too tweeted: “My urge to all the BJP karyakartas, friends and well wishers who are anxious and upset & still visiting our house in large numbers Time to show we are a ‘party with a difference’. We are all committed to tread the path of ideology. And work for #NamoAgain2019.”

The Congress is trying to counter this move by fielding senior AICC member BK Hariprasad, who had contested this seat in the 1990s.

IT Savvy Minister

The BJP has renominated Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda in Bangalore-North. Determined to wrest this seat, the ruling JD(S)-Congress combine has convinced foreign educated two-time State minister Krishna Byre Gowda to contest this seat. This seat has large number of institutions of higher learning and many IT companies have their offices.
