The striking workers of the Brandix apparel park at Atchyuthapuram in Visakhapatnam district may call off the agitation and resume duty by Monday, according to a press release issued by the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone authorities. A reconciliation meeting was held by Sobhana K.S Rao, the Development Commissioner of the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone, on Thursday with the representatives of the workers and the management.
It was explained to the workers that some of the issues raised by them such as the PF notification were not within the purview of the managements of the companies and they would be taken up with the Government. The workers mainly raised two issues - one relating to the Provident Fund Notification and enhancement in minimum wages from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.
The workers were informed that the minimum wage issue would be taken up with the State Government. The workers' representatives sought two days to discuss all the issues with their co-workers and they agreed to report to duties from Monday and the management also agreed to arrange transportation facilities to them.
