Vodafone invested ₹750 crore in Tamil Nadu in the last financial year to build the State’s largest 3G network and increase its retail presence, said S Murali, Business Head (Tamil Nadu), Vodafone India.
The mobile service provider activated over 3,600 new sites in the last one year, covering more than 800 towns/villages. It also added 11 lakh subscribers over the past 12 months to build a total subscriber base of nearly 1.43 crore in the State, which is one of the most critical markets for Vodafone nationally, he told newspersons.
With already one of the State’s largest and exclusive retail footprint, Vodafone continues to expand its reach to expand its reach to cover over 32 districts in Tamil Nadu.
Last financial year, Vodafone launched over 20 global design stores in the State, as part of its initiative to offer retail experience to its new age customers. Whether it is in Edinburgh in the UK or Erode in Tamil Nadu, the design stores offer a uniform customer experience, he said.
On the rollout of 4G, Suresh Kumar, Operations Director (South), Vodafone India, said that trials have started on 4G network in Karnataka. However, it is early days for 4G as a substantial amount of work is still to be done in 3G. Also, a good ecosystem on 4G is yet to be in place, he said.
