The CBI, which is probing the multi-crore Saradha scam, has yet again sent a notice to the Trinamool Congress, seeking details of the party’s income and expenditure.

The notice, sent reportedly via Speed Post, is addressed to Subrata Bakshi, the party’s national general secretary.

Sources said the agency has sought details of the party’s expenditure and income — which is likely to include donations received, sale proceeds from paintings and collections from advertisements in the party’s mouthpiece — during 2010-2013. The TMC has been given a week’s time to respond.

Last week, officials of the investigating agency had called up the party headquarters to inquire about Bakshi, who was then out of town.

Earlier notice

The CBI had earlier sent a notice addressing former TMC general secretary Mukul Roy. At present, Roy is being sidelined by the party.

The investigating agency was reportedly told to get in touch with the new general secretary, Bakshi, regarding the issue. Roy, in response to a letter from his party, had reportedly said he was not in possession of the party’s books of accounts.

Meanwhile TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee said the party will reply once it sees the notice. “Every day we get thousands of letters. If we come across such a notice and it deserves a reply we will do that,” he said.

Alleging that the CBI is politically motivated, Chatterjee said the Central agency is working at the behest of the BJP. According to him, the CBI has lost all credibility.

“It is acting at the behest of a political party before the civic elections,” he alleged.
