The Centre must come clean on how the ₹11,500 crore scam took place at Punjab National Bank, Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy has demanded.
The former Union minister also asked the government to take steps to revive the banking sector.
“Nirav Modi’s case showed how the country’s banking system failed to detect it. Despite the presence Reserve Bank of India and Union finance department, the fraud was not detected early,” Roy said, on the sidelines of the Infra-East event organised by the CII here on Tuesday.
“I think renewed thought should be applied to revive the banking sector,” Roy added.
Recapitalisation of banks will fail to yield desired results, if huge sums are thus drained out.
