Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday afternoon inspected the Polavaram project site in West Godavari district and reviewed the work on the mega irrigation project.

He told reporters at the site that the Centre would bear the entire cost of the Polavaram project and that he had spoken to the Prime Minister earlier in the morning over the phone and thanked him for announcing a special package for AP. He said the Centre would bear the cost of irrigation as well as power components and the cost of rehabilitation.

He said the Prime Minister had assured him that the Centre would compensate the state to the extent it would have benefited from a special category status. The Prime Minister also told him that the Centre would render all assistance in building the Polavaram project and in taking up other projects. He said he would constantly monitor the progress of the Polavaram project and see to it that the first phase is completed by 2018.
