Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked bankers to extend cooperation in strengthening horticulture and livestock.

In a meeting with Suresh N Patel, Managing Director and CEO of Andhra Bank and other members of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) held in Vijayawada on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that banks continued to ignore horticulture and livestock, even though the allied sectors contribute greater GDP than agriculture.

“There needs to be an increased focus on these sectors as it will reduce farmer suicides,’’ Naidu said.

Andhra Bank CEO Patel informed the Chief Minister that Andhra Bank was the first bank in the country to introduce overdraft via SMS and ATM for Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, according to a release.
