Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Chhattisgarh Government has come up with a new policy under which a beneficiary will have to pay only ₹2,000 to local municipal authorities for construction of an individual household toilet, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said.
The state has a target to build 3.52 lakh toilets for urban households lacking the facility.
Under the mission, ₹4,000 is available as incentive from the Centre to each household for constructing either a new sanitary toilet or for converting existing insanitary ones.
“The cost of constructing a sanitary toilet in urban areas is estimated as ₹18,000. Under the policy, the beneficiary is required to deposit ₹2,000 with the local municipal authorities, who will then take up the responsibility of constructing a household toilet for the family,” the statement added. The State Government will bear the balance cost of ₹12,000 per toilet.
