The CII-Indian Green Building Council has completed ten years and has played a catalytic role in propagating the green building movement in the country.

By the year 2022 (India @75), Indian Green Building Council aspires to cross over 10 billion sq.ft of green building footprint.

On this day, 10 years ago, CII-Godrej GBC building Hyderabad, the country’s first Platinum rated green building was inaugurated by A P J Abdul Kalam, the then President of India.

The CII-Godrej GBC building served as a demonstration green building and has been spearheading the green building movement. As on date, over 2,600 green building projects amounting to over 2.13 billion sq.ft of green building footprint are going the IGBC way, making India the second country in the world in terms of green building footprint.

The reason for this significant progress is the fact the green buildings makes good business sense. Today, over 90 per cent of projects, both in terms of green building footprint and number of projects are going the IGBC way. IGBC has successfully demonstrated a clear business case for green buildings and today various types of buildings, spread over 120 cities are going the IGBC way.

A major initiative of IGBC is the launch of IGBC Green Building Rating Systems for new buildings, homes, factory buildings, SEZs, townships, landscape and existing buildings.
