Focussed customer segment and innovative product line have sure played a huge role in the growth of CK’s Bakery. Started by Manu Ranganathan, son of CK Ranganathan of CavinKare, the bakery has grown from four outlets in three months.

The bakery chain is on an expansion mode.

Manish Bhatti, Cluster Head, CK’s Bakery, said there are very few players in the mid-level market that serves baked goods as well as snacks at an affordable price.

CK’s Bakery, which addresses this segment, was started on June 8 on a 140 sq ft space. The shop provides a range of food items, including sandwiches and paninis, which is their signature dish, in addition to regular baked products. Bhatti said, “We concentrated on customer service and food quality, which received a better response now resulting in expansion in span of over three months.”

The food is prepared fresh as per the customer orders and are available at an affordable price of less than ₹100. Bhatti said they are looking to tie up with existing logistics players for home delivery.

“Most of our customers are from the IT sector or college-going students and that crowd will continue to be our focus,” Bhatti said. The bakery made a profit of ₹16,000 in its first month and current month’s profit before tax is expected to reach ₹1 lakh. It is looking to launch 20 more outlets in the next two months.

“We are planning to further our business in Tamil Nadu beyond Chennai after studying the market requirement,” Bhatti said.

Addressing the media on the entrepreneurship at a Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, CK Ranganathan, Chief Executive Officer, CavinKare Private Ltd, said more than investment, it is the idea and innovation that sets a business apart and drives the growth.
