Citing a CAG report, the Congress alleged on Thursday that there are major bungling, fraud and misuse of public funds allocated under Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) scheme to Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani. The party also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack the Minister from the Cabinet and lodge an FIR against her.
Addressing a press conference, Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Shaktisinh Gohil said Irani had selected Anand District as her nodal district for implementation of work under the MPLAD scheme in 2011. They said the MPLAD projects were being executed by Gujarat State Rural Development Co-operation and it was wound up in 2015, and Irani’s office instructed that the works should be awarded to Shri Sharda Majdoor Kamdar Sahkari Mandli, Kheda. “This was in complete derogation of MPLAD guidelines, particularly Clause 2.11.,” the leaders claimed.
