The alliance talks between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress in Delhi seem to have extended to Haryana as well. A section in the Congress is pushing AAP’s case for a seat in Haryana for sharing three seats for the Congress in Delhi. Out of the 10 seats, the Congress holds one seat from Haryana in the 16th Lok Sabha.

Sanjay Singh, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, is mediating between leaders of both the parties. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, is the AICC general secretary in-charge of Haryana. Azad apparently has conveyed to the Congress high command about AAP’s demand.

The Delhi unit president of the Congress Sheila Dikshit was openly against any alliance in the State. In Haryana too, former chief minister Bhupender Hooda is not in favour of the alliance, but a good section within the State leadership, including PCC president Ashok Tanwar is for an alliance in the State. In Haryana, the party failed to come to any understanding with Indian National Lok Dal and it is dividing the anti-BJP votes in the State.

PC Chacko, Congress leader in-charge of Delhi, was in favour of the alliance. On Haryana too, Azad has left the decision to Gandhi. Sources in the Congress said the decision is likely to be announced at the earliest as the BJP has started the campaign in both the States.
