India reported 1, 61,736 Covid19 new cases on Tuesday, slightly lower than the record high cases on the previous day.

Ten states —Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh,Chattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Kerala—accounted for 80.80 per cent of the new cases. 

India’s cumulative cases number stand at 1,36,89,453 of which total recoveries are 1,22,53,697; and the death toll has increased to 1,71,058 with 879 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry website. The daily active cases stand at 12,64,698 on Tuesday.

Among all the states, Maharashtra has been consistently reporting the highest infection cases of coronavirus and on Tuesday it recorded 53,389 cases,while Uttar Pradesh after reporting its highest single day spike yesterday, reported fresh cases at 13,604 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Chhattisgarh at 13,576, Delhi at 11,491, and Karnataka at 9,579 cases. The total number of cases with UK, South Africa and Brazil variants of the COVID virus in the country till Monday was 948.

Meanwhile, on Day-3 of Tika Utsav, the country’s cumulative vaccination coverage exceeded 10.85 crore with over 40 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours. Eight States—Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh,West Bengal, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala—account for 60.16 per cent of the total doses given so far in the country, an official release said.

DELHI SITUATION

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged Delhites not to rush to hospitals unless necessary for Covid-19 treatment. While requesting the people to follow Covid-19 protocols, Kejriwal also tweeted that the Delhi government is taking several steps to increase beds in both private and government hospitals.

In view of the sharp surge of Covid19 cases in Delhi, the health department on Monday declared as many as 14 big private hospitals as fully Covid care centres. This move came hours after Kejriwal chaired an emergency review meeting to assess the Covid19 situation.
