The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd has launched plain butter milk in 1 litre pack.

Speaking to BusinessLine on the sidelines of the 62nd All-India Cooperative Week celebrations in Mangaluru on Wednesday, BV Satyanarayana, Managing Director of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, said that Dakshina Kannada union is the first among the 14 cooperative milk unions under the Karnataka Milk Federation to launch such a product for consumers.

Though masala butter milk is available in the market, the plain butter milk is the new addition to the portfolio of products offered by the Dakshina Kannada union.

Asked about the target segments for plain butter milk, he said people in different parts of coastal Karnataka prefer different taste when it comes to masala butter milk. This plain butter milk will offer them a base to prepare masala butter milk of their choice.

In addition to this, the household segments in coastal Karnataka also need plain butter milk. The main aim is to cater to the needs of these two segments, he said.

A one liter pack of plain butter milk will cost ₹35, and it comes with a shelf-life of three days.

To a query on the production capacity for the plain butter milk, he said the Mangaluru dairy of the milk union can produce around 10,000 litres a day. However, the union is producing and marketing around 5,000 litres of butter milk a day now, he said.

He said the cooperative union has set a tradition of launching at least one new product during the cooperative week celebrations. It has launched around 30 products in the last one decade, he added.
