The Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake section of Delhi Metro pink line, stretched over 17.89 km, was inaugurated on Wednesday.
“With the opening of this section, the Delhi Metro network has now become 314 km long with 229 Metro stations. All the major corridors under Delhi Metro’s Phase 3 are expected to be opened for passengers by the end of the year,” an official statement said.
While inaugurating the Metro line, the Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Puri, said: “With this expansion, Delhi Metro has become a member of an elite club of large metros which have such a mammoth network of over 300 km long route.’’
The Minister also applauded the Delhi Government’s assurance for clearing the hurdles for the commencement of Delhi Metro Phase-IV project of 103.93 km length. There are other Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) projects being planned which include the 82.15 km Delhi to Meerut corridor, Delhi- Panipat (111 km) and Delhi-Alwar (180 km), the release added.
The Deputy CM of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, and the Transport Minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot, were among some of the officials who were also present.
