Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Government of India undertaking, has assured investments of ₹1,000 crore over two to three years in energy conservation initiatives by the Andhra Pradesh Government.

The State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who interacted with a three-member team of EESL, expressed satisfaction over the positive response to support energy conservation measures.

The State Government plans to have a 24x7 hours of power supply to the household sector, a project that iss being taken up as a pilot initiative in collaboration with the Centre.

The MD of EESL, Saurabh Kumar, has said they would come forward with a proposal for replacement of existing street lighting with energy efficient LED street lighting in all 111 municipalities and corporations. In the first phase, it plans to take up this programme in 24 municipalities.

EESL will invest the capital required for the project and replace incandescent bulbs in domestic sector with high quality LED that will be provided to the households at a subsidised cost under the efficiency lighting programme.

While the cost of LED lights is about ₹400 in the market, EESL is expected to supply at just ₹10. The modalities for the implementation of this project were being worked out, a statement from Energy Conservation Cell said.

EESL apprised the Chief Minister about retrofitting the agriculture pump sets with energy efficient pump sets in a phased manner to save about 30 per cent. As a pilot project, EESL has agreed in principle to implement these measures in the 13 mandals comprising of 25,000 agriculture pump sets, wherein segregation of agriculture feeders is completed.
