An eye institute, a corporate and a Canadian Organisation have joined hands to set up a Vision Centre that reaches facilities in the industrial area near Hyderabad.

The L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in association with Hartex Rubber Pvt Ltd, and Operation Eyesight Universal, Canada have launched the primary care centre at IDA Bollaram, Miyapur.

Vision Centres are being promoted by LVPEI for the provision of primary eye care in rural hinterlands and suburban areas. Each Centre serves a population of 50,000 to 100,000 and has a trained Vision Technician.

These centres are free walk-in clinics, well equipped to provide basic eye screening (without papillary dilatation) & refraction. A small optical shop is an integral part. Patients who need detailed medical and/ or surgical treatment will be referred to the main campus.

The one started today is the 140th centre. Hartex Rubber, manufactures bicycle tires and inner tubes under hartex brand and is one of the largest employers in the industrial area since 1987.

Operation Eyesight is a development organization working to eliminate avoidable blindness since 1963. It has brought sight-restoration and blindness-prevention treatment to millions of people. It is focused in Africa, particularly in Ghana, Kenya and Zambia, and in India.
