A fire broke out on the 16th floor of a commercial building Central Kolkata on Thursday gutting the global market office of the State Bank of India. Apart from SBI, the 19-floor building also houses offices of the Life Insurance Corporation of India and other financial institutions. According to fire brigade officials, the fire broke out around 10.20 a.m. in server room of SBI’s global market office located at the Jeevan Sudha building. The fire had spread to three above floors before the firemen could bring the flames under control. At least 13 fire tenders were pressed into action, sources say. There are no reports of any casualty.
