Indications of a formal announcement on the dissolution of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for early elections, are strong in the state capital, as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao is seen going through the necessary stages.

The crucial Cabinet meeting held today, in addition to the presence of all legislators of the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) in Hyderabad, hectic meetings with the top administration, legislative bodies and election officials, all clearly point to the dramatic development.

Speculation has been rife that KCR, a firm believer in Vaasthu, numerology and astrology, would take the big decision around 6.45 am on Thursday at the urgently called Cabinet meeting. He would then meet the Governor, ESL Narasimhan, with a recommendation to dissolve the Assembly and recommend polls in the afternoon.

Even the Opposition parties’ reaction to the political moves of the Chief Minister only strengthen the imminent development. The Cong (I) leaders, led by state chief, Uttam Kumar Reddy, virtually unveiled their manifesto on Wednesday night, even as they took on the challenge of KCR, exhibiting their preparedness.

According to schedule, the assembly elections in Telangana should be held along with the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Experts feel the prime driver for KCR to advance the polls would be to ensure that the mood during the general election does not overshadow local issues.

At the same time, the TRS chief wants to cash in on the myriad schemes, sops, vision projects and massive development, he claims, has propelled Telangana into one of the fastest growing states. He also wants to project KT Rama Rao, his son and popular minister and face of the TRS government, as the successor.

KCR is also banking on exploiting the seemingly unprepared Opposition by launching a campaign blitz of around 100 meetings in 50 days across the 10 districts. He would reportedly kick off the TRS strategy for Husnabad in Karimnagar on Friday.

The CM’s hopes hinge on the Election Commission agreeing to club the state elections with those in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh, slated for the end of the year. In that case a likely poll in December seems on.
