High plumbing standards have to be maintained and there is a necessity for promoting awareness about it in public, and to train the workforce for building smart and clean cities, according to V Srinivas, Chairman of the Hyderabad chapter of the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA).

At a press meet here on Wednesday, he said the Visakhapatnam chapter of the IPA will be inaugurated here on Thursday by Member of Parliament K Haribabu. The IPA has 12 chapters at present with a membership of 2,400.

He said the IPA’s main objectives were to improve plumbing efficiency by organising training programmes for workers and to have interface with Government agencies, NGOs and others for upholding the standards of the profession. “After the bifurcation of the State, it was felt that there should be a separate chapter for the new AP, and since Visakhapatnam is the most important city, we are launching it here,” he said.

The local chapter will also conduct training programmes for plumbers and at a later stage a training centre may also be set up.
