The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is planning to hold countrywide demonstrations on Sunday to protests against the petrol price hike.
This is part of the party’s call to all its units to hold outreach programmes to sensitise people on the “anti-people” plans of the BJP government at the Centre.
“The fact that petrol price have been increased by Rs 3.13 a litre and diesel by Rs 2.71 while international crude price have been decreasing for several months in a row is a purposeful decision benefiting few money bags and wealthy industrial houses, said a party release, adding that this is a “return gift” to the people who funded the campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
AAP said the price hike will have a more severe impact on poor people because they spend more than half of their income on food and accused the Modi government of “slowly striving to give up its social responsibilities and let market forces decide the fate and destiny of the common man.”
The party said it will oppose this hike inside and outside Parliament and will mobilise support against the “pro-rich” moves of the Modi government. In Delhi, the protest will be held in Jantar Mantar.
