Geography or physical location is no more a constraint for growth to any organisation in the present digital world, as the recent Masala bonds raised by Kerala and listed in the London Stock exchange shows, said Shyam Sreenivasan, MD &CEO, Federal Bank.
The whole money was not raised from here. The limitation is more of our mind than of any external environment today, he said. He was interacting with the students and alumni of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) Kochi campus.
Answering a question, he said the NPA issues is partly the result of not enough long term financial instruments to raise funds for essential infrastructure developments, which has long gestation period. The issue of organic growth v/s inorganic growth should be decided purely by the cost and implication of the M&A, he said to another query about the growth route of his bank.
The Leadership Talk series is one of the initiative of IIMK to facilitate industry- academia interaction. The interaction, chaired and hosted by former Chairperson, Abhilash S Nair provided insightful discussions on NPAs, digital disruptions and NBFCs, among others affecting the banking sector. Shyam Sreenivasan reminisced his days at IIM C and shared some light moments about the campus experience.
