The Gujarat government on Saturday appointed Dr Jagdip Narayan Singh, a Gujarat-cadre IAS of 1983 batch as Chief Secretary of the State. Singh replaces 1981-batch IAS Ganga Ram Aloria on his retirement from the service, a government notification stated on Saturday.

Singh, who currently holds multiple charges in the Gujarat Government including Additional Chief Secretary at Finance Department and the Managing Director of state energy major, GSPC Group and its Group companies will take charge as the Chief Secretary on July 31.

Singh holds a wide and varied experience of having worked in various Departments of Government of Gujarat and Government of India such as Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd.

Singh holds a Masters in International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, while he holds a Ph. D in Political Economy from the M.S. University of Baroda, Vadodara.
