Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, sought to remind the people about the “lawless” regimes of the Congress Party before the BJP's rule 22.

“Those who destroyed the country are daydreaming about a return to power in Gujarat. Do you want to restore and witness those Congress days of lawlessness again?” he asked the people at an election rally at Palitana in Bhavnagar district.

He said, under the Congress regimes, before 1995, not a month passed without riots rocking some or the other part of the state. “The annual Lord Jagannath Rathyatras in Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad were disturbed in seven out of 10 years and innocent lives were lost.”

However, under BJP rule, no communal riots took place. “Don’t you want a peaceful life to continue?’ he asked, and claimed that the Congress was set to be “washed away” in the BJP “tornado” in the coming Assembly elections.

He said the Congress leaders have never seen poverty as they are born with a golden spoon in the mouth. “Only one family has ruled India for 48 years after Independence. Contrast this with me: I was born in a faqir family and my struggle is against a dynasty.”

At another public meeting at Navsari in South Gujarat, Modi said the outcomes of the ongoing Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and local bodies polls in Uttar Pradesh are a “foregone conclusion” as the BJP is going to win everywhere. “In the Congress, only a family wins. In the BJP, the whole country wins.”

The Congress, he said, believes it has a birthright to rule, but the coming polls will uproot it completely. Anything that improves India is opposed by the Congress, including the Cleanliness Drive, or the surgical strikes against Pakistan. “While we remember our revered leaders like The Buddha, Gandhi, Bose and others, the Congress remembers its next-of-kin, Gabbar Singh!”
