The first accused in the 2010 chopping of a college teacher’s hand has surrendered to the National Investigation Agency court here on Friday.
Nazer, who had been absconding all these years, is accused of plotting the attack on TJ Joseph, a Malayalam lecturer at Newman College, Thodupuzha, for drafting an examination question that allegedly alluded to Prophet Mohammed.
The court had awarded eight-year imprisonment to 10 convicts and two-year jail to another three persons.
The convicts had waylaid Joseph’s car on July 4, 2010 close to his home and chopped off his right palm. It was later stitched back in a long surgery.
Joseph was later sacked from the college, but reinstated the day before his retirement last year. Meanwhile, his wife later committed suicide.
