Facing a non-bailable arrest warrant, the Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel got a respite from the Visnagar court on Thursday. The court granted bail to Hardik on personal bond of Rs 5,000 after he personally appeared before the court earlier on Thursday.

On Monday the Visnagar court had issued non-bailable warrant against Hardik and six others, including Lalji Patel, leader of another Patidar quota agitation group, Sardar Patel Group (SPG) in the case of allegedly ransacking the office of BJP legislator Rushikesh Patel during the protest rally of Patidar community demanding reservation in July 2015.

"Today I approached the court and requested them that due to pre-decided social engagements I could not appear in the court earlier. The court acceded to my request and has granted me bail," Hardik Patel told the media persons.

Earlier in the day before appearing in the court, Hardik questioned the State government's intentions saying, "The talks (with government) were going on for the withdrawal of cases against Patidars. (Then) Why did this Non-Bailable Warrant was issued?"

SPG leader Lalji Patel too was granted bail after he appeared before the court.
