While most of the time it is the candidates of the main political parties who grab attention during an election campaign, independent candidates also sometimes arouse public curiosity, though it may not make any great impact on the outcome ultimately.
Dr Kutikuppala Surya Rao, who is contesting from the Visakhapatnam LS constituency, is one such candidate. He earned a name for himself as the ‘friendly neighbourhood doctor’ through his clinic at Kancharapalem during the past three decades. After campaigning in various areas during the last few days, he decided to use a helicopter on Monday, the last day of campaigning, to catch the attention of voters.
He used a four-seater chopper to cover all the Assembly segments in the constituency in three hours. “In a democracy, the voter is the king and hence I have decided to shower roses on them to seek their blessings. I will also drop pamphlets to seek their support,” Dr Surya Rao said and added that the banner carried by the chopper and the floral shower at important junctions attracted the voters.
Dr. Surya Rao fervently hopes that his flower shower would yield him a rich harvest of votes.
