The seventh annual conference of the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) will be held here on January 7-8, 2017 here.
“About 400 to 500 medical experts, including key opinion leaders from across the world, will deliberate on cardio vascular diseases, metabolic disorders, brain trauma, among others,’’ Sanku Surender Rao, President of GAPIO and a practising gastroenterologist from the US, told newspersons at a press conference held here on Friday.
The theme of the two-day conference is Diabetes – The Giant Killer and Innovations in Medicine.
Prathap C Reddy, Founder President and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, said GAPIO has representation from 33 countries. “Its vision is to improve health worldwide,” he added.
It is estimated that there are 1.2 million physicians of Indian origin working in India and other countries of the world. There are 1,25,500 physicians of Indian origin working in the English speaking Western world (the US, UK, Australia and Canada combined).
