Industry representatives expressed optimism on the new Tamil Nadu government to be sworn-in tomorrow as it will provide for continuity in policies, and consolidation and acceleration of gains of the previous government.

The Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah will formally swear-in J Jayalalithaa and a 28-member Cabinet tomorrow marking the AIADMK government’s second term in office.

B Santhanam, Former Chairman – Southern Region, Confederation of Indian Industry, said “I am optimistic on the acceleration of the work done by the previous government.”

The government had earlier tackled power shortage and steered Tamil Nadu out of a crisis situation. If the work is continued it will benefit the energy sector and the overall industry, he said.

The Global Investors Meet (GIM 2015) had attracted ‘credible MoUs’ which the bureaucrats had followed up assiduously and sincerely, and kept track of the progress. Even the single window system of clearance for investments is working well. All of this can be further speeded up to support the revival of the manufacturing sector in the State, he said.

Also more sector-specific policies will help, he said.

Palani G Periasamy, President, Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said in a statement that the AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa’s “unique achievement of getting people’s mandate for the second term in succession is a mark of support for pro-active welfare policies and her commitment to making Tamil Nadu the leading State in the country.”

He said the industry is looking forward to the implementation of the plans in the Vision 2023 strategic plan document for infrastructure development.

On Saturda,y the Governor formally invited Jayalalithaa to form the government as the leader of the single largest party in the elections to State Assembly.
