K J George, Minister for IT, BT, Science and Technology, inaugurated Centre for Health Genetics (CHG) Hostel for researchers and visitors today, in Electronic city.
CHG inaugurated its new hostel facility for researchers, scholars and visitors. This facility is built over an area of 2500 square meters costing a total of Rs 7.2 crores.
He also praised the state for its keen interest in science and research.
“It was no surprise that some of the most advanced institutions for the study of science are established in Bengaluru, and the high quality of education imparted in schools and colleges in the state has contributed its success,” he said.
The minister visited the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), in Electronic City- Bengaluru and met Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Kris Gopalakrishnan, and Krishnakumar Natrajan.
George also visited the Bengaluru Bioinnovation centre, a Karnataka government initiative. He commended the work done at IBAB.
In his inauguration speech, George said, “Karnataka is a forward thinking, progressive state where science and technology has always been given prime importance. The state government has released approximately Rs 700 crore as research and support grants to the centre in the financial year 2017-2018.”
He also hoped for students to join these fields and that the CHG will extend its support.
