Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan today released the first list of 21 candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections to be held in the State on April 18.

The second list, along with the candidate list for the Assembly by-elections and party manifesto, will be released on March 24 in Coimbatore, the actor-turned-politician told newspersons.

The candidates include retired IPS officer AG Mourya (North Chennai) and Kameela Nasser (Central Chennai), who is the wife of actor Nasser.

When asked if he will contest in the coming elections, Kamal Haasan replied that he needs to consult with his partymen. “Yes, I wish to contest in the elections but my party men need to tell me that,” he said.

“All speculations on me contesting will be announced on March 24,” he said.

On the manifesto promises made by the DMK and the AIADMK, he said that they are quite old.

To a query on the dynasty rule in DMK he said, “The party used to be the land of the rising sun, but now, it is the land of the rising son,” he said.
