The Karnataka government has decided to allow the sale of white kerosene in open market.

Addressing the media in Mangaluru on Tuesday, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister UT Khader said that the government has issued an order this effect.

Those interested in selling white kerosene in open market can approach the office of the Food and Civil Supplies in their districts, he said.

Pulses thru PDS

On the other initiatives, he said the government will take steps to distribute pulses to the PDS (public distribution system) cardholders below the poverty line.

In his Independence Day address, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced that PDS cardholders below the poverty line would get protein-rich commodities in addition to the carbohydrate-rich ones. As part of this, pulses will be distributed from next month.

Sunflower oil

Stating that sunflower oil will be distributed to PDS cardholders below poverty line in Bengaluru and Mangaluru from next month, he said people from these regions did not prefer palm oil.

Khader said the government has brought the issuance of ration cards under the Karnataka Sakala Services Act.

This Act ensures guarantee of services to citizens. Under this, the person who applies for ration card would know its status. The applicant can expect the delivery of the card within a set timeframe, he said.
