Karnataka Bank is targeting an agricultural advance portfolio of ₹5,515 crore by March.
Addressing the Agri Business conference of the bank in Mangalore on Tuesday, he said that the portfolio of ₹5,515 crore will constitute more than 18 per cent of the total advance of the bank.
At present, the bank has 10 agriculture development branches, 142 rural branches and 51 agriculture field officers as dedicated resources for agricultural advances.
The bank has plans to open 75 new branches across India during the current fiscal. Of this, at least 29 branches will be opened in rural areas to give further thrust to agricultural advances, he said.
Quoting MS Mahabaleshwara Bhat, Chief General Manager of the bank, a press statement said that agricultural field officers should bring in an element of professionalism to agricultural advances portfolio management. Besides extending technical guidance to farmers, they should ensure timely credit delivery, its end use and recovery, he said.
