The Karnataka unit of the Congress is working on strengthening the party at the grassroots level, according to G Parameshwara, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of his visit to the athletics stadium in Mangaluru on Wednesday, he said the state is all set to witness elections for village panchayats in the coming days. (Parameshwara is the president of the Karnataka Amateur Athletics Association)
Though the elections to the village panchayats are not fought on party lines, the process would help strengthen the party at the grassroots level. As the president of the state unit of the party, he is focusing on strengthening the Congress at the grassroots level, he said.
Stating that the party has taken up a membership drive in Karnataka, he said the drive will reach a level in another 15 days. The target is to enrol 25 members in each booth. That has already been done.
After that, the Congress will initiate organisational elections in the state. A calendar of events for elections to the ward, block and district-level committees has been drawn up.
