Karnataka has emerged as the top State in disbursements of loans under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna, according to Ananth Kumar, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers.

Inaugurating the ‘Mudra’ promotion campaign in Mangaluru, he said that 8.4 crore beneficiaries have been provided Mudra loans of ₹3.5 lakh crore in the country. Of them, the share of Karnataka stood at ₹24,894 crore with 27.29 lakh beneficiary accounts at the end of September. The loans up to ₹10 lakh are provided without collateral securities under the scheme.

Ananthkumar Hegde, Union Minister of State for Skill Development, said on the occasion that schemes such as Mudra encourage people to become entrepreneurs and improve their livelihood.

He urged the bankers in Dakshina Kannada district to come forward to set up an entrepreneurship training centres. The Centre will extend support, he said.

Earlier, Ananth Kumar had promised a plastic park for Dakshina Kannada district to improve the employment opportunities in the region.

Ananthkumar Hegde said the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers will be requested to set up a training institute on plastic engineering in the region. This will help in creating manpower for the proposed park and improve employment opportunities in the region, he said.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada, presided over the meeting. Representatives of various banks participated in the Mudra promotion campaign.
