Endorsing the Goods and Services Tax Bill, Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan has said that his government has no objections to the Bill. Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac had also announced his support to the Bill in a recent Facebook post.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Vijayan said Kerala government agrees with the content of the Bill. When asked about Isaac’s open support to the Bill, he said there was a meeting of finance ministers on GST recently and he does not have the information of what were discussed in the meeting.
“CPI(M) had earlier raised some reservations. Kerala government has agreed with the Bill. In Parliament, when it was discussed, CPI(M) has raised certain reservations. Kerala government has no objections,” the Chief Minister said.
Vijayan is in Delhi to attend the Polit Bureau and Central Committee meetings of his party. CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has been opposing the Bill on the ground that it will hamper the federal structure and will reduce the revenues of States.
