A senior level delegation from the State will take part in the five-day Gitex Technology Week 2012 that begins in Dubai from Sunday.

P.H. Kurian, principal secretary, IT, will lead the team, an official spokesman said here.

Other members are Vijayakumar, special secretary to the minister for IT; Girish Babu, chief executive officer and M. Vasudevan, senior business development manager, Technopark; Gigo Joseph, chief executive officer, Infopark; and representatives of companies from Technopark and Infopark.

Gitex is considered a business gateway to the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in West Asia, North Africa and South Asia regions.

The state intends to showcase the IT parks including the upcoming Technocity, the Kollam Technopark, Infopark-Cherthala and the Kinfra High-Tech Park. Kerala has been participating in the Gitex events in the past, the spokesman said.

It has benefited from the exposure as evidenced in a number of West Asian companies which has since committed investments here.

In turn, small and medium enterprises from the State too have got the opportunity to set shop in the West Asia market.

Girish Babu said that the State would use the opportunity of this year’s Gitex event to present various investment opportunities in the IT sector.

The State is seeking to build on its geographical attributes to position itself as a prominent destination through focused initiatives in IT infrastructure development, human resource development and e-enablement of citizens.

Technopark has witnessed new developments during the past one year. A number of new companies are ready to open offices at the campus.

The freshly-minted master plan for Technocity has also been successful in generating investment opportunities, Girish Babu said.

Gigo Joseph said that Gitex has always been an excellent platform to showcase the Kerala IT story to a global audience.

“We look forward to meeting business organisations from around the globe and refer to them detail on the various opportunities here,” he added.

The delegation would also use this opportunity to meet up with prominent non-residents to discuss investment initiatives.
