Prices of several tea varieties moved southwards at Kochi auctions this week, with CTC Dust declining by longer margins.
The market for CTC dust in sale no 18 has come down by longer margins of ₹5 to ₹10 and more towards the close as the sale progressed. As a result, the unsold percentage was more compared to last week, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
The quantity on offer was 13.59 lakh kg which was low compared to last week. The market also opened at ₹3 to ₹5 lower. There was a subdued demand from Kerala Loose Tea traders and upcountry buyers, while exporters confined to medium and plainer varieties.
Despite good arrivals in Orthodox grades at 22,000 kg, the market was lower by ₹3 to ₹5 and witnessed lot of withdrawals.
In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good grades fetched prices at ₹90-139, mediums ruled ₹74-110 and plain varieties quoted ₹60-67.
However, with a good demand in orthodox leaf sales, the market for select best Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf was steady to firm. The quantity on offer was 1.19 lakh kg. There was an active participation from CIS countries and other exporters.
The demand was less in CTC leaf with 1.22 lakh kg was on offer. The market for good liquoring teas remained steady, while others were lower by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more.
In dust varieties, Injipara SRD (TGLIA) quoted the best prices of ₹155 followed by Venniar SFD at ₹153. In leaf grades, P’s Woodlands Hyson Green Tea fetched the best prices of ₹301 followed by Chamraj FOP (sup) Green Tea at ₹286.
