Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd operated 50 Shramik special trains for migrant labourers during the lockdown period.
A press statement by Konkan Railway said that it had operated Shramik special trains on request of respective State Governments — Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra — for carrying stranded migrant labourers from the Konkan region to their respective States.
Till date, Konkan Railway operated 50 Shramik special trains from Udupi, Madgaon, Thivim, Karmali, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and Chiplun Stations to different destinations in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal. It carried 67,178 passengers in them.
Thousands of migrant labourers were stranded in the Konkan region due to lockdown, it added.
