Lapp Group, supplier of integrated solutions and branded products in the field of cables and connection technology has instituted the Lapp Innovation Award. The award was launched at the 10th anniversary celebrations of PSG- Lapp Centre of Excellence in Cable Technology here on Wednesday evening.

The award, according to Andreas Lapp, Chairman of the Board Lapp Holding AG and Honorary Consul of the Republic of India for Baden- Wurttemberg and Rhineland- Pfalz is to encourage innovation and support the “Make in India” programme.

Inviting nominations for the Lapp Innovation Award, Mr Lapp said “industries in South India that have developed innovation products/ solution in the last two years (2012-14) using Lapp cables and accessories would be eligible for nomination.

Interested applicants can download the format from www.psgtech.edu, fill the form and email the same with necessary documents by August 5, 2015.” The best innovators would be awarded certificates and prize money of ₹3 lakh, ₹2 lakh and ₹1 lakh respectively, he said.

Earlier in the day, Lapp India – a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Lapp Group, at Stuttgart, Germany, signed the extension of 10 year partnership with PSG College of Technology and inaugurated the PSG- Lapp Centre of Excellence as part of industry-academia connect initiative of the company.

Driving creation The centre would serve as a link between industry and institution by offering solutions related to industry design, selection and applications of cable, connectors and routing for industries like automation, textile, automotive, machine tools, oil and gas, renewable energy, process industries and in the infrastructure and building sector, said R Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG College of Technology

The Group, according to Andreas Lapp has grown 8 times in the last decade. And it is not just organic but investments as well, he added. Lapp India started operations in 1996 with a manufacturing unit in Jigani, Bangalore. The production area at this plant was doubled in 2014.

Performance and growth The company set up new multi core line manufacturing facility at Pilukedi in Bhopal. The first phase of this plant was completed in 2012. This plant can produce more that 2.16 lakh km of single core cable per annum, catering mainly to the building cable segment, the Lapp Chairman explained adding “the total investment has crossed €5 million.”

It has on date 23 sales offices, 260+ employees and network of 130 dealers. Lapp India would look at strengthening its facilitation centres to 40 over the next 5 to 10 years, he said.
